The ministry unveils the package to support farmers and fishermen struck by American prices

The Ministry of Agriculture unveiled a full support package on Monday to help farmers and agricultural exporters resist the impact of imminent American rates.

The six -point initiative was introduced in response to a decision by the American president Donald Trump on April 2 to impose an import rate of 32% on all Taiwan goods, a measure postponed for 90 days a week later.

In its place, the United States has promulgated a temporary tariff of 10% on most imports from world countries

The measures are designed to stabilize industry, protect affected producers and improve Taiwan’s competitiveness on national and abroad, the ministry said.

To help compensate for the short -term financial impact of prices, the ministry said that it would subsidize loans interest rates up to 0.75% for six months, adding that eligible farmers, agricultural groups and agroes can request individual loans up to $ 20 million NT (US $ 615,422).

The eligibility would also extend to producers with export history to the United States, as well as people indirectly affected by tariff adjustments, the ministry said.

In addition to financial support, the government would offer subsidies to strengthen the infrastructure of the cold chain, product processing and quality certification in the context of broader efforts to improve production capacities.

Flower producers that meet the specific criteria would be eligible for subsidies up to $ 10 million, while tea and edamame – a kind of popular immature soybeans in Eastern Asia cuisine – producers can request targeted support for equipment and packaging improvements.

The ministry also announced support for brand image, packaging innovation and market segmentation, including subsidies up to $ 150,000 per project to help cover international certification costs for flower, EDAMAME and tea products.

Aquaculture operators, including fish farmers who elevated Barramundi and Tilapia, would receive expanded support for storage of cold and ice manufacturing, grant rates increased by 10% compared to previous plans.

The deep and offshore fishermen catching Mahi-Mahi, in particular those participating in the program to improve peaches, would be eligible for upgrades to the cold chain system up to $ 3 million per ship.

To ensure continuous access to global markets, the Minister will also finance marketing campaigns abroad for products cultivated by Taiwan, including flowers and sowing, Barramandi, Tilapia, Mahi-Mahi and Edamame, as well as tea entirely produced at the national level.

Detailed application directives are available on the ministry’s website, and a free consultation hotline has been created to help requests.
