The Secret to Fast Food in the Air Fryer – Without the Greasy Fingers

Fried chicken is a favorite cheat day treat, but for those looking to indulge without the guilt, an air fryer is your perfect solution.

Whether it’s spicing up your chicken wings or getting the perfect crispiness on your veggie fries, I’ve got the ultimate tips for creating that crispy, fried texture without the grease.

Eating healthy doesn’t have to be boring. You can easily indulge yourself by cooking at home and opting for fresher ingredients instead of ordering out.

And one of the best things about an air fryer is that you can still make delicious food without the need to fry it.

Here are my best tips and recipes for creating the best alternatives to fried chicken and fast food.

Pimp your wings

The secret to getting tasty chicken wings is to marinate them a few hours in advance. Try different flavors such as soy sauce, honey, and garlic. This will not only add flavor but also make your wings nice and tender.

If you’re craving a spicy chicken wing, wait until after your chicken has cooked before coating it with your sauce. Get creative with your glazes—think Korean gochujang or a garlic parmesan topping.

Add a crunchy coating

Add an extra layer of crunch to your chicken wings by coating them with crushed nuts, panko breadcrumbs, or even crushed pretzels before baking. Toss them with a little flour and seasoning to boost the flavor even further.

Make your own sauce

Sauces are a must-have when you’re eating your favorite fast food. But when you’re trying to opt for healthier options, they can become your worst enemy. Pre-purchased sauces are often very high in salt and sugar.

Try making your sauces with fresh ingredients like onions and garlic, adding natural sweeteners like honey, and swapping cream or butter for a healthier fat like olive oil or Greek yogurt.

Replace your fries with vegetables

You can still get that deliciously crispy fries texture by using sweet potatoes or other root vegetables like carrots or parsnips for a healthier option. Don’t forget to add your favorite seasonings: try Cajun seasoning for an extra kick.

Soaking cut potatoes in cold water for at least 30 minutes will help remove excess starch. Be sure to dry them thoroughly before cooking to ensure optimal crispiness.
