This is why you need to add salt to your coffee

Everyone knows how he likes his coffee. Dark or not, with or without sugar, with milk or soy milk – and these are just a few of the options.

And that’s why when a new TikTok trend tries to tell us to add salt to our morning coffee, we’re horrified to change anything in our coffee — of course, we don’t. we’re not going to add salt.

But it turns out that the addition of salt, which has caused so much noise on social media, is not without value. Researchers have found that not only does putting salt in your coffee have health benefits, but it can sometimes improve the sometimes overly bitter taste of coffee.

Yes, it turns out that a pinch of salt will make your coffee less bitter and more delicious – it’s actually a sugar substitute.

Experts also agree with food scientist Alton Brown expressing support for his show’s idea, Good food. In fact, he’s talked about it so much that some coffee fans call the salt trend “Alton Brown’s trick.”

“Not only does salt reduce the bitterness of coffee, it also lessens the ‘stale’ taste of water stored in a reservoir. I started adding a quarter teaspoon of kosher salt to six tablespoons Not really enough to taste, but it’ll do,” Brown wrote in a blog post. “And by the way, research has proven that salt neutralizes bitterness better than sugar.”

In fact, in countries like Taiwan, coffee mixed with sea salt is an everyday treat and can be found on the menus of Taiwanese cafes and bakeries around the world, including in the United States.

Dr. Anis Khalaf, an Orlando acupuncturist, recently told his TikTok followers that there are three reasons to add a little salt to your coffee.

The first reason is that salt actually improves the taste of coffee without the need for sugar. The second is that salt can block bitterness. The third reason is that too much coffee can cause the body to lose sodium, which salt can supplement.

Another TikTok user, @heritagehousehomestead, agreed that adding salt helped her get rid of her coffee heartburn. She suggested her followers add salt to ground coffee beans before brewing.

Some reviewers flat out refused to try adding salt, but a few admitted to trying it and said it definitely worked.

“I drink black coffee. The salt takes away the bitter taste,” said one commenter.

Another added: “My grandfather taught me this in the 1960s. It’s been a staple in our family ever since.”
