Top Tennis Players Crowned at 2024 Take The Cake Tournament in Mitchell – Mitchell Republic
MITCHELL — The champions have been crowned and the cake has been presented at Hitchcock Park.
The Mitchell Tennis Association held the 18th annual Take the Cake tennis tournament this weekend, with 63 participants competing in doubles on Saturday, August 3, and singles on Sunday, August 4, for the third consecutive year. The winners of the final match in each group received a cake or cupcakes.
In doubles action on Saturday, Tyler Osterloo and Leah Branaugh defeated Jacob Dahme and Tyler McEntee 8-2 to win the Chocolate Cake division. Father-daughter duo Scott and Melanie Mullenmeister defeated Matteah Graves and Dayton Adams 9-8 (4) to win the Marble Cake division.
Mitchell girls tennis head coach Pat Moller and Elly Clement won the Red Velvet Cake division, defeating Ryan and Amber Adrian 8-3 in the final. Jacob Delehant and Liam Schiefen took first place in the Angel Food Cake division, finishing the round-robin competition with a perfect 4-0 record.
In Sunday’s singles competition, Dahme won the German Chocolate Cake division 8-4 over Jager Juracek. Sutton Thompson beat Moo Sher 8-5 in the match for third place in the bracket.
Adams won the Carrot Cake division, defeating Simon Wiese 8-5 in the final. Htoo Say Zan won a close 8-6 match against Katie Morgan in the third place match in the bracket.
The FruitCake division was won by Patrick Morgan, who dropped just four games en route to the final, beating Clay Bathke 8-1. Delehant secured third place with an 8-1 win over Sydney Love.
In the Cupcake Round Division, Caleb Machado earned first-place honors with a perfect 3-0 record, defeating runner-up Avery Ashbaugh 9-7 in the first division match of the day.
