Use the rest of your chocolate in a Tiffin

If you have some leftover chocolate lying around (a bag of chocolate chips from the last time you made cookies or a leftover bar that you didn’t use in a recipe), you can use it to make a new dessert: a chocolate tiffin. For those unfamiliar with tiffins, a tiffin is a no-bake Scottish dessert made with two layers. The first layer is crushed graham crackers that have been mixed in a pan with butter, cocoa powder, honey, raisins, and cherries (or your favorite combination of ingredients). The second layer is simply melted chocolate. Once the two layers are mixed, place the tiffin in the refrigerator for about two hours to set, and then you’re good to go.

You can use any type of chocolate for this recipe: dark, milk, or even white if that’s your preference. As long as the chocolate can be melted, it can be used for the top layer of the tiffin. That’s why this recipe is perfect for using up leftover chocolate: as long as you have two cups, you’re good to go. You can even combine milk chocolate and dark chocolate for a swirl of different chocolate flavors if you have a little of each leftover (or not enough of one kind to make both cups). Since this dessert is so easy to make (and doesn’t even require turning on the oven), you have plenty of room to experiment with different chocolates.

How to Customize and Serve Chocolate Tiffin

The chocolate top layer isn’t the only way to customize this dessert. As mentioned above, the bottom layer can be made up of whatever additions you want. So, if you’re not a fan of fruit in dessert, you can stick to nuts or even flavored graham cracker crust. You can also swap out the raisins and cherries for other types of fruit, dried or fresh, like dried cranberries or dates.

As for the presentation, chocolate tiffin is sweet and delicious enough to be served on its own, but feel free to pair it with ice cream. Vanilla is always a great choice, or you can go for the ultra-chocolatey version and pair it with chocolate ice cream. You can also play up the fruitiness of the dessert and pair it with a fruit sorbet, such as raspberry or peach.

If you want to add a little extra sweetness in a different way, you can top it with homemade honey whipped cream, perhaps accompanied by chocolate chips or chocolate shavings. Or, for a new flavor, you can drizzle salted caramel sauce on top.
