Visitors taste Millet ice cream launched at Krishi Mela
Bengaluru: At the Krishi Mela 2023 organized by Bengaluru Krishi Mela at the premises of Gandhi Krishi Vigyan Kendra, the National Institute of Food Technology Entrepreneurship and Management (NIFTEM-T), Thanjavur developed a new technology to make ice cream from of non-dairy millet ice cream. cream and launched it at the Krishi Mela. V Palanimuthu, director of entrepreneurship and management at the National Institute of Food Technology, Thanjavur, launched the millet ice cream at the Krishi Mela on Sunday. Free ice cream was distributed to farmers who visited the fair.
Cereal ice cream is suitable for people with lactose intolerance and vegetarians. According to a statement released by the UAS, millet ice cream is rich in nutrients, iron and vitamin B1. It is health-friendly thanks to phytonutrients. Millet ice cream contains 35.7 grams of carbohydrates, 3.1 grams of protein, 9.1 grams of fat, 0.6 grams of crude fiber and 183 kcal of energy.
This ice cream is prepared without using milk. It is rich in iron and vitamin B. Cereals like navana (foxtail millet), ragi, corn are soaked in water, ground to a specified quantity and their milk is extracted. It is prepared by mixing 7% vegetable cream. No artificial flavors, color is used. No added sugar either. V Palanimuthu explained that the calcium, iron and vitamin content of the cereals will be contained in the ice cream.
In the technology-driven world of agriculture, Agriculture University has done the job of bringing agriculture-related activities to the people of Karnataka. This year’s Krishi Mela was held with the slogan of grains for food, health and income. On the second day of Krishi Mela, a food fair was organized at Krishi Mela. At the Millet Food Fair, grain-based foods including ice cream, cookies and a variety of foods were on display. Grain-based foods specially prepared by farmers were on display.
This time around 625 stalls have been opened at the Krishi Mela and some varieties of grains including millet, sunflower etc. have been developed and unveiled here. Many booths and technology platforms were made available and people received a lot of information as well as new types of food at the Millet Food Fair.
Farmers’ inventions and agricultural innovation, information on new agricultural technologies, demonstration of integrated farming system, drip and sprinkler irrigation system, exhibition of advanced agricultural machinery, cultivation system suitable for agriculture , demonstration of horticultural crops and precision agriculture, as well as a world of agriculture was unveiled during the Krishi Mela.
