It’s a great day for everyone! National Soft Serve Ice Cream Day is celebrated on Monday, August 19th and it’s the perfect day to enjoy some at your favorite ice cream parlor.
For those who don’t know, soft serve ice cream is similar to conventional ice cream, but softer and less dense due to the introduction of more air during the freezing process.
Most of the Louisville area’s soft serve ice cream restaurants are open through the end of October, so stop by and enjoy a cone or cup of ice cream. Here’s a roundup of seven places in Louisville and southern Indiana where you can enjoy soft serve ice cream.

WHAT: This Louisville favorite is known for its soft serve ice cream and chili dogs. The Eastern Parkway location serves soft serve ice cream in a cone or cup and dipped cones. Choose from 13 sundaes, including a sugar-free sundae; milkshakes come in 20 flavors; floats come in nine flavors and include vegan vanilla and sugar-free butter pecan; and flurries come in eight flavors to choose from.

WHAT: Dairy Queen offers a variety of ways to enjoy soft serve ice cream. Try a vanilla cone or a chocolate dipped cone. Sundaes are available in hot fudge, strawberry, chocolate and caramel flavors. Royal treats include Heath Caramel Brownie Cupfection, Banana Split, Oreo Brownie Cupfection and Peanut Parfait. The popular Blizzard offers 11 flavors to choose from, including the new Ultimate Cookie Blizzard. WHAT: This Southern Indiana ice cream parlor has been serving soft-serve ice cream since 1952. Polly’s Freeze serves soft-serve cones, banana splits, sundaes, floats, and everything in between. It also offers a selection of sorbet and ice cream flavors.
