The fishery opener of the Governor of Minnesota 2025 takes place from May 9 to 10 in Crosslake.
Here is a guide for the opening of this year, including what you need to know about the event and how to prepare.
Before the first game
Buy a fishing permit. Fishermen 16 and over must have a valid fishing permit, according to the Minnesota Ministry of Natural Resources. You can buy an online license, calling 1-888-665-4236, or through an approved supplier.
Understand the regulations. The fishermen who plan to participate in the opening of fishing are invited to understand the fishing regulations of Minnesota 2025, noting in particular the special regulations that apply to lakes, rivers and individual streams in the state.
During the first game
About the opening of fishing. This year’s fisherman’s operator takes place for the first time in Crosslake. The Crosslake zone includes the 14 interconnected lakes of the white lake chain, which includes 119 miles of shore.
Prevent the spread of aquatic invasive species. Boaters are required to clean the aquatic plants and the debris of their motorcycle, drain the water from the lake or the river and eliminate unwanted bait in the trash each time they leave the water.
Report the killings of fish. The fishermen and those participating in events for opening fishing are invited to report the killed fish they encounter, including the body of water, the date, the fish species and the number of dead or dying fish. The MRN says that it is interested in this information because it can provide information on the problems in the ecosystem. To report a killing of the fish, contact the state service officer here or call the state emergency number at 800-422-0798 or 651-649-5451.
Special events
This year, “Take a Mom Fishing Weekend” – when minnesota resident mothers can fish without buying a license – is May 9 to 10 of this year.
Participants are invited to compete in the fishing challenge of Minnesota mothers. Mothers who publish photos on the Facebook page of Minnesota Moms Fishing Challenge 2025 will be registered to win the following awards.
