BERNAMA – LICENSES OF SUBSIDIZED COOKING OIL PACKAGING COMPANIES INVOLVED IN APPROPRIATIONS WILL BE REVOKED

PAPAR, March 10 (Bernama) — The Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) will take strict measures, including the immediate revocation of the licenses of subsidized cooking oil packaging companies allegedly involved in the misuse of this essential item, said its minister, Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali.

He said KPDN had identified several companies involved in the illegal distribution of cooking oil, including selling it to industries rather than retailers for consumer use, as well as selling it to neighboring countries .

We (KPDN) will announce the total (number of companies involved in diversions and leaks related to subsidized cooking oil packaging) after March, as in some states the audits are not yet completed,” he said. he told reporters after launching Rahmah’s sales program in Kinarut, near here today.

Armizan said the ministry was serious about ensuring that no subsidized cooking oil packaging company continued to sabotage the government’s well-intentioned program to help targeted groups obtain the essential item at an affordable price on the walk.

“Any party involved in diversions and leaks will be subject to immediate action, including legal action,” he said, adding that subsidized cooking oil packaging companies in Sabah were not exempt from strict sanctions.

Armizan said the ministry would also improve the Cooking Oil Price Stabilization System (eCoss) to monitor the distribution process of subsidized cooking oil packets from packaging companies to retailers.

He said last year the government spent RM1.5 billion to subsidize a total of 60 million packets of cooking oil in the market.

In Sabah, Armizan said, his ministry will continue to strengthen cooperation with various parties at the state level to ensure that subsidized cooking oil packaging companies can distribute supplies to all districts in need.

He said 90 per cent of the subsidized cooking oil packaging companies were established in Sabah’s east coast, including Sandakan, Tawau and Semporna, while only 10 per cent were in the state’s west coast.
