Dog Mom’s list of essential travel safety items is a must-have for pet parents

If you’re an involved pet parent, it’s only natural to include your fur baby in your travel plans. Especially if your dog loves exploring as much as you do, he will enjoy accompanying you on your trip. However, you can’t decide to travel with your dog at the last minute!

Taking your puppy on vacation requires a lot of planning, packing, and even shopping, but if you start preparing now, you’ll save yourself a lot of stress later. Just ask the dog’s owner, Britt! She takes her Golden Retriever, Winston, camping, and she packs a few dog safety essentials that every dog owner should know about.

Luckily, the helpful dog mom shared her favorite finds in a February 29 TikTok video. Keep scrolling to see what she packed:

Britt is so prepared for Winston to travel, but I hope she thought about packing too! She seems to have thought of everything, from packaging Benadryl for allergic reactions to finding a cable tie that lets her Golden Retriever explore. Even though she considers herself a “helicopter dog mom,” it’s a perfect way to plan for her friend’s safety before their trip!

In case you want to make a list for yourself, Britt and her camping dog Winston have packed:

– a pet first aid kit (containing Benadryl)

– light to attach to dog collar, reflective collar or other visibility tool for nighttime dog walks

– a dog bed or mat

– long cable or tether for dogs

Of course, you can customize your dog’s packing list to include what would be most useful to you. But don’t forget about the canine first aid kit and visibility tools! You’ll also want to pack portable bowls for your puppy’s food and water, an extra leash and collar, and plenty of food and water for the trip.

While one commenter suggested bringing a travel dog crate for the trip, another recommended an emergency sling for dogs. This can be a great tool for transporting large dogs in an emergency, but remember to pack anything that might be useful for your dog, more precisely.

A first aid kit for dogs

It is also important to create a first aid kit that will be useful in case of cuts, scrapes and paw injuries. You can purchase dog first aid kits online, but you will also need to include any medications your dog needs, as well as emergency medications like Benadryl.

Additionally, make sure you have gauze, non-stick bandages, hydrogen peroxide, wound cleanser and several other basic items on hand. You can visit a number of veterinary websites to learn about items you may need, but remember to consider the weather and activities of your specific trip when packing.

As Winston and Britt show, a little planning can ensure that traveling with your dog goes as smoothly as possible, although the peace of mind is also great!
