ISLAMABAD (APP) – A health expert on Sunday urged the public to adopt a healthy lifestyle including daily exercise, regular heart check-ups and maintaining weight to avoid heart-related deaths, as the incidence of coronary heart disease (CAD) is alarming. rising globally, including in Pakistan.

Major General Cardiologist (retd) Azhar Mehmood Kayani, speaking to PTV news channel, informed the public that the risk of cardiac death can be reduced by adopting a healthy lifestyle and urged people to have a complete heart check-up regularly to avoid possible heart attacks.

He stressed on creating mass awareness about cardiovascular diseases and their prevention, adding that laziness and lack of outdoor activities are the root causes of heart diseases.

He said people should adopt a healthy lifestyle and exercise to protect themselves from heart disease.

Dr Kayani said there was great need to take heart diseases seriously and work towards their prevention, adding that diabetes, hypertension, smoking and an inactive lifestyle were the main causes of heart attacks.

Apart from genetic factors, smoking, obesity, physical inactivity and poor diet, including fast food and high-fat foods consumed in Pakistan, are major risk factors for heart attacks, he said .

“Obesity is the root cause of most diseases, giving rise to hypertension, diabetes and cardiovascular diseases,” he stressed.

Cardiovascular diseases (CVD) have been recorded in high, middle and low income countries, he said, adding that low and middle income countries lack adequate health resources to combat the disease burden. .
