Georgetown Dessert Shop Strives to Offer Sweet Treats and Souvenirs to Customers

A multicultural cafe and ice cream parlor in Georgetown not only serves sweet treats, but also strives to offer delicious souvenirs to its customers.

“A lot of grandmothers come with their grandchildren, a lot of moms come with their children and they have a sweet time,” La Dolce Vita owner Patricia Vaz told MassLive on Wednesday.

“We are going through very difficult times, aren’t we? So when people come here, we want to give them sweet moments,” she continued. “We love people. We like to involve people. We love having people around and we love giving people moments of happiness.

La Dolce Vita specializes in treats from around the world, including Açaí bowls, originally from Brazil, and the Italian coffee-based dessert Affogato. The shop also serves specialty coffees, teas and milkshakes, which are the real stars of the show.

Topped with candy, sprinkles, whipped cream and even rubber ducks, the milkshakes come in several flavors like Reese’s, Cotton Candy, Vanilla Oreo and Strawberry.

The space occupied by La Dolce Vita was once the storage location for the neighboring restaurant Pomodori, run by Vaz’s husband, Elias. Patricia Vaz was helping out at the restaurant before La Dolce Vita officially opened in June 2022. At the time, Vaz was working as a housekeeper, but knew she was ready to run the shop.

“God told me it was time for you to step up,” said Vaz, who is also a minister, just like her husband. “So, I quit my job.”

The inspiration behind the design of La Dolce Vita came from the travels of a former business partner who visited cafes in other countries. Vaz said she took the best elements from each of these stores (ceiling umbrellas, pink walls, neon signs) and incorporated them into the space.

The combination of concepts blends well in confectionery, attracting customers from all over. Some clients, who drive up to an hour and a half to Georgetown, only come for photos, according to Vaz.

Although the owner is grateful that people like the store’s aesthetic, Vaz would prefer if they stayed.

“They sit down and want to take pictures. Two minutes (and) they left. And sometimes I get sad about that,” she explained. “We have to experience moments, like moments with people and with ourselves.”

Thanks to a viral video from the social media account My Diet Is Trash, La Dolce Vita’s popularity skyrocketed. For this reason, many people ask Vaz if she plans to expand to Boston. Although she’s open to the idea of expanding, Vaz wants to soak in the store’s current success for as long as she can.

“I think good things require you to go a little further (for),” she said with a laugh. “Right now, I’m living in the moment.”

Vaz said the line at La Dolce Vita is open most Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, so if you want to come and create some sweet moments for yourself, you better get there early.
