I lost 210 pounds in two years on this risky diet – I did it for my wife and future child

A newly married man lost 210 pounds in just two years after doctors warned his obesity could lead to fertility problems.

Isaiah Caldwell, 28, weighed 434 pounds when he received the sobering news.

The St. Louis, Missouri, man took action by adopting a strict carnivore diet, consisting only of meat and other animal products like eggs and dairy.

After two years, the 6-foot-4 tech salesman had lost more than half his weight. He says he is happy, healthy and can’t wait to continue trying for a baby with his wife Amanda, 29.

“Having a baby became an obsession of ours – we were really excited about it,” Caldwell told SWNS.

“We started trying for a year before we started to suspect there might be problems with fertility. I knew if I could do anything to give us a chance, I would,” he said.

Isaiah Caldwell of St. Louis, Missouri lost more than 210 pounds in two years on the carnivore diet.

Caldwell quickly began his life-changing diet, giving up many of his favorite foods.

“People think there’s some magic in it. But the reality is you’re just eliminating overeating, because it’s very difficult to eat meat excessively – it’s very restrictive and probably not for everyone,” Caldwell confessed.

After just a month of indulging in steak and smoked brisket, he said, he was “blown away” to discover he had already lost more than 20 pounds.

Encouraged, he decided to continue filming for another month, losing about the same amount of weight. He then decided to stick with it.

“I felt amazing even after a week – psychologically I felt so much better, my brain fog was totally gone. I felt a million times better,” Caldwell recalled.

“But I knew I wasn’t going to be able to go on forever just eating meat.”

Ten months later, after losing more than 100 pounds, he introduced fruits and dairy products into his daily intake and dove headlong into the world of bodybuilding – soon he lost 140 pounds.

Continuing his diet and exercise, he eventually reached the 210-pound mark.

“If anyone thinks maybe they can’t do it, let them know that I felt exactly that too,” Caldwell encouraged. “It seemed impossible and hopeless, but everyone is capable of it.”

The carnivore diet is not without its detractors – while emphasizing that it can lead to “weight loss, improved mood as well as blood sugar regulation”, experts at the Cleveland Clinic warn against this and other diets that eliminate entire food groups, citing the dangers of a lack of fiber or an increased risk of heart disease from eating too much saturated fat.

Now comes the next challenge: seeing if the efforts of the reduced father-to-be will be enough to lead the couple to a successful pregnancy.

“We’re really optimistic — I’m going to do some testing, but I’ve increased the odds from zero to at least something,” Caldwell said.

“I’m in the best shape of my life and we’re excited to find a way to become parents no matter what.”
