McDonald’s customers can’t order food after global outage

An hour later, McDonald’s Australia posted again on X, noting that all of its restaurants had “reopened”, reporting that some had closed due to an earlier technical issue. Downdetector, a website that reports app and website outages as well as technical issues, has seen an increase in reports on the McDonald’s app and website. Reports on Downdetector came in throughout Friday morning, and a map on the website showed numerous reports from New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, Phoenix and Seattle. CNBC reports that the United Kingdom also experienced this outage.

Downdetector also extracts social media posts, where some indicated that the outage also reached Sweden and Germany.

Although McDonald’s has not given details on the cause of the global outage, the company has made clear through multiple statements from its global teams that the issue was not due to a cyberattack of any kind. Instead, the brand notes that the outage was the result of a third-party vendor and configuration change.

Brian Rice, McDonald’s global chief information officer, released a statement to global employees, franchisees and brand development licensing partners, which was also made public on the McDonald’s website. ‘business. The statement reads:

“On Friday, around midnight CDT, McDonald’s experienced a global technology system outage, which was quickly identified and corrected. Many markets are back online, and the rest are in the process of doing so. We work closely with markets that are still experiencing problems. Notably, this issue was not directly caused by a cybersecurity event; rather, it was caused by a third-party vendor during a configuration change.

The reliability and stability of our technology is a priority, and I know how frustrating it can be if it fails. I understand this has an impact on you, your catering teams and our customers. What happened today is an exception to the norm and we are urgently working to address it. Thank you for your patience and we sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this has caused.

According to the brand’s statement and various social media posts, it appears that the issue has been resolved and the majority of McDonald’s restaurants around the world are back in operation. Despite the temporary McBlackout, it appears the McNuggets are safe, and that’s what matters.
