New pizzeria and speakeasy cocktail bar opening in St. Francisville this spring

ST. FRANCISVILLE, La. (BRPROUD) — A new pizza restaurant is coming to West Feliciana Parish. Big River Pizza Co., 5725 N. Commerce St. Street, is expected to open in early April, according to owner Lizzie Moss.

Lizzie and Morgan Moss own Big River Pizza Co., where construction is underway. “We chose this location because of the increased development downtown,” Lizzie Moss said.

She said the pizzeria would be called “Big River Pizza Co. and the speakeasy in the back would be called Proud Mary’s.”

The Mosses said they thought Big River Pizza Co. “was a fun name, relevant to the town and close to the river.”

“When there’s something going on at the Mallory for 500 people, or there’s something going on at Parker Park, we want that place to be a little bit of a warm embrace,” Morgan Moss said. “That’s how we got to pizza.” Because we can do it in a showcase kitchen with a high-fire oven. We can turn it into a culinary art form that will be really fun and exciting. But it can also be casual enough to allow spontaneous diners and family groups who just need a bite of pizza on the way home to enjoy it this way. Or where people who are shopping and just need to put their feet up and slide into Proud Mary’s for a cocktail and some fried Brussels sprouts can get it too.

New St. Francisville restaurant is a fresh start for former Baton Rouge cafe and food truck

At the pizzeria, customers will enjoy “six to eight small plates ranging from traditional Italian starters to easy appetizers, two to three seasonal salad options, 10 to 12 pizzas using red and white pies, a children’s menu , three desserts, soft drinks, cocktails, wine and beer,” said Lizzie Moss. They will also offer a gluten-free crust.

There will be room inside and outside for customers to enjoy their meal. Lizzie Moss said takeaway would also be available through the Toast app. There will be no drive-thru service.

In the back, guests can grab hand-snapped cocktails from Proud Mary’s.

An ice cream parlor called Away Down South will be a tenant in the building, according to Lizzie Moss.

Big River Pizza Co. hours will be 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday. Proud Mary’s will be open from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Saturday.
