A Pizza Hut employee in south Milwaukee has been arrested following a murder that police say may be linked to a $7,000 inheritance check.

Kavonn Ingram is charged with the murder of Alex Stengel. Both men were employees of a Pizza Hut in south Milwaukee. The Milwaukie Journal Sentinel reports that authorities were called to the scene on February 7 following the discovery of a body in a trash can outside the restaurant.

First responders noted that Stengel had been both shot and stabbed. His wallet, phone and keys were nowhere to be found. Police noticed a trail of blood leading from the dumpster to the rear entrance of the restaurant.

Based on the evidence, law enforcement concluded that Ingram likely killed Stengel inside the Pizza Hut, wrapped him in a trash bag, and placed his remains in a rolling trash can that he taken to the dumpster where Stengel’s body was discovered two days later. later.

Records indicate Stengel showed up for a shift at 9:30 a.m. Feb. 5 and opened a log. Surveillance footage from a nearby Taco Bell restaurant shows a person struggling with a rolling trash can and moving the restaurant’s trash can to the outdoor dumpster at 10:25 a.m. 3 minutes later, a series of messages were sent from Stengel’s phone to the manager of the Pizza Hut establishment where both men worked. The messages were followed by a phone call that the manager noted was “muffled.” Pizza Hut’s payroll system shows that Stengel was clocked out at 10:50 a.m. At 11:07 a.m., a final message indicating that Stengel was not feeling well and that he had clocked out was sent to the store manager.

Authorities believe Ingram was the originator of the messages and also responsible for taking Stengel out of the system to cover his tracks. A regional Pizza Hut manager told authorities that Stengel was seen showing a wad of cash to co-workers, including Ingram.

Ingram was arrested on February 11 and faces various charges, including first-degree intentional homicide as an accomplice to a felony involving the use of a dangerous weapon, armed robbery as an accomplice to a crime, of concealing a corpse as an accomplice to a crime. felony and possession of a firearm by a felon.
